Tikka
Benicia, CABreed: Husky/Pit mix
Weight: 55 lbs
Age: 2 years old
Gender: Female
Hi! I’m Annie and my 1.5 year old Pit/Husky mix is Tikka. Tikka is a goofy girl full of love. She wants to be everyone’s best friend - people, dogs of all sizes, and cats. She loves chasing and wrestling with other dogs and easily makes friends. Her dream come true would be to have a doggy friend over to play in our large, completely fenced-in yard. We have two indoor/outdoor cats and two young children (they’re at school all day though). My husband and I typically work from home so we could host on weekdays. We sometimes need help on weekends when we like to do things outside of the house and can’t bring Tikka with us. Also happy to host overnight for extended periods of time. Please shoot me a message if you ever need weekday care!

Charley
Benicia, CABreed: Standard Poodle
Weight: 50 lbs
Age: 13 years old
Gender: Male
Hello! My husband and I live in downtown Benicia and own Happy Life Pottery. We live very close by to where we work, and we have a small fenced in back yard that we rarely use ourselves—it’s mainly Charley’s. Charley is a sweet 13 year old poodle—he is used to being the only dog because he was a service dog most of his life (a very strict lifestyle). When we inherited him a few years ago, he had been trained to not get close to people, so although he has changed a lot these last years and loves everybody and loves pets and attention, he’s still not the cuddliest of dogs—he’ll lean on you (his hug) and get pets, but he usually won’t lay on or right next to you. He loves other dogs, but because he never lived with one before, he can get pretty excited and want to play a LOT. Last year, he had major surgery—he had 2 degenerative discs removed) because he was losing his ability to walk. He’s been doing GREAT since then, but he can trip occasionally and is not quite as stable as he used to be. He also cannot roughhouse play. It also means he is not supposed to jump up and down on or off furniture or in car anymore—which is why we can’t have him on furniture anymore. If we had a small dog staying with us, we would not mind them at all on the furniture or bed, but if it was a dog closer to Charley’s size, we wouldn’t be able to let them because Charley would feel so left out and want to also (and unfortunately we can’t let him anymore). He’s getting older, so he’s losing some of his hearing. But he does not seem like an old dog at all—everyone who meets him can’t believe how old he is! He’s got a great personality. I don’t think Charley could handle the activity of more than one dog, or a large or very energetic dog, but I’d love to find someone with another dog he could play with regularly and feel comfortable staying with for those few times we go out of town—and vice versa. He would be SO happy to have a buddy! Also, for any dog staying with us, although I don’t usually take him to the dog park, I do one walk (at least) daily.

Is Dog Boarding Good For Your Dog?
Dog boarding can be a great option for your dog, but it depends on their temperament and preferences. Some dogs thrive in a social environment, while others may feel more comfortable in their own home. Consider your dog's needs and personality when making a decision.
When deciding if dog boarding is suitable for your furry friend, consider the following factors:
Socialization
Dogs are naturally social animals, and many enjoy the company of other dogs and humans. If your dog enjoys interacting with others, a boarding environment with opportunities for socialization can be enriching.
Routine
Dogs often thrive on routine and familiarity. If your dog has a well-established routine at home, inquire about boarding facilities or sitters that can maintain a similar schedule to reduce stress.
Separation Anxiety
Some dogs are prone to separation anxiety and may become distressed when separated from their owners. In such cases, in-home boarding or dog sitters who can provide one-on-one attention may be more suitable.
Special Needs
If your dog has special dietary or medical needs, discuss these with your chosen boarding option to ensure they can provide the necessary care.
Personality
Consider your dog's temperament. Some dogs are more adaptable and easygoing, while others may be more sensitive. Choose an environment that aligns with your dog's personality.
Why Dogs Are Happier Staying With A Family Than Dog Boarding
Dogs are social animals, and many of them thrive on human interaction and a homey atmosphere. Staying with a family in an in-home boarding situation often provides the following benefits:
Personalized Attention
In-home boarding typically offers a higher level of one-on-one attention. Your dog can form a closer bond with their host family, leading to a more enriching experience.
Familiar Surroundings
Dogs are creatures of habit. Being in a home environment with familiar sights, sounds, and smells can help reduce stress and anxiety.
Social Interaction With Humans And Other Dogs
Dogs benefit from social interaction, and in-home boarding often includes interaction with the host family's own pets. This can provide mental stimulation and companionship.
Reduced Stress And Anxiety
Being in a home setting with fewer dogs and a consistent routine can lead to reduced stress and anxiety for your pet.
