Leo
Lafayette, CABreed: Goldendoodle
Weight: 55 lbs
Age: 2 years old
Gender: Male
We are a family of five in Lafayette: myself, my husband, two sons, and our goldendoodle pup. We work from home the majority of the week. Our family requires hypoallergenic pets due to allergies. Our dog is about 55 pounds, which is the maximum size we would be comfortable with.
Ollie
Lafayette, CABreed: Labrador Retriever
Weight: 80 lbs
Age: 4 years old
Gender: Male
Pretty quiet household with one adult female, one teenager (female), one male lab (4 years old) - Ollie - super socialized, hikes with Diablo Dogs every day and gets along with everyone but doesn’t like aggressors and has less tolerance for pests now that he’s an adult. That said he still loves to play! We have one cat who isn’t a big fan of dogs so would want guests that don’t have high prey drive and will ignore her. I work in SF during the week, so short weekend stays will be best when I’m home. Ollie is a great listener and Velcro dog that will follow you around. Yes he gets up on one couch at our house if the blanket is on it and sleeps in my bed if it’s not too hot. But he will likely go where he’s told and find a comfy spot that smells right for him at a new house. He’s a sweet, good boy!

Weight: 45 lbs
Age: 5 years old

Hi! We have a 4 yr old border collie/German shepherd mix! He is a sweet cuddle bug and loves being outdoors. Don’t think he would be great with cats. We also have a rambunctious toddler and a lovely yard.
Holly
Lafayette, CABreed: Australian Labradoodle
Weight: 25 lbs
Age: 8 years old
Gender: Female
We live in Lafayette near Reservoir. We do not have a yard but love lots of nearby leash walks/outdoor secure deck for sun bathing. Mom is home based and we have a young teen pup lover. Dad has hybrid office work schedule. Holly is a 25lb 6 yo labradoodle. Super sweet and lower energy but loves her walks and fluffy toys. Sleeps a lot during the day and loves people cuddles and belly rubs. She is crate trained and goes there if we run out and often overnight (when not sleeping with sister). We do not typically crate during day more than 4 hours (after potty break) and only if can’t take with us. We would be seeking similar swap/style of pup parent (crate trained preferred).
Juno & Jett
Lafayette, CABreed: Australian Cattle Dog
Weight: 35 lbs
Age: 7 years old
Gender: Female
Breed: Australian Cattle Dog
Weight: 35 lbs
Age: 1 year old
Gender: Female
This is Juno (6) and Jett (1). Juno is a herding dog so she is known as "the regulator". She gets nervous when other dogs play, so we usually put her inside if they're playing outside. Jett is a spunky shepherd, cattle dog & border collie mix. She looks like a GSD, but is small like a cattle dog. She talks a lot and is ball obsessed. Both walk well on leashes, but will fetch until their paws bleed (we don't recommend playing that long!). Jett loves everyone and every dog but is so talkey when she meets other dogs they sometimes don't know how to take her. Jett has many best friend dogs. But sadly she is too much for older dogs, and wants to play with everyone. Both dogs are great with kids but Jett may mow over small children if they get in the way of her ball. She plays ball with our 4 year old twins and has since she was 2 months old (she's a foster fail). Both dogs are spoiled rescues.

She is a happy easy going doggo we adopted through the rescue. We occasionally need to find a temporary arrangement for her when we travel internationally. We welcome other dogs, spayed/neutered/vaccinated at our home in Lafayette (near Pleasant Hill/Walnut Creek).
Jada
Lafayette, CABreed: Labrador Retriever
Weight: 50 lbs
Age: 11 years old
Gender: Female
Hi! We have a sweet, 9-year-old brown lab rescue named Jada. We work from home mostly and have two young kids so she's great with children. Jada's well mannered in the house (doesn't jump up on furniture w/o permission), won't run away and loves to be around people. If you dare to play fetch with her, she'll do it for hours and always drops the ball at your feet. This is our go-to in lieu of a walk which makes her a happy, tired camper. We do have a fenced yard and a school with a large field at the end of our street which we take advantage of. Our 9 year old son really wants another dog and thought we'd host a few first to see if we can handle it.

He loves playing w/other dogs or fetch. An ideal doggy match would be sweet and playful but not over the top w/energy- although that’s fine if it wears them out. Age: 6 years old
Gender: Male
I am a full-time math, Spanish, and writing tutor on zoom. My boys and I like to travel from time to time. We have a golden retriever who is five years old. He’s super sweet and loves to cuddle. We are very responsible and seek out the same in other people. We would like to find other dog owners in Lafayette, Moraga, and Orinda for exchanges. We live in an apartment, so smaller dogs are preferred. My son loves corgis, so those are especially desirable. Another dog smaller than our guy would be great or any small fluff ball is awesome. 😁🐕❤️ We love animals and have a lot of experience with them. We’ve had chickens, turtles, fish, and have taken care of cats and other pets for friends.

Tycho
Lafayette, CABreed: Mixed
Weight: 60 lbs
Age: 9 years old
Gender: Male
Our dog is part of our family, and if yours stays with us they will be treated that way too! We hike on local trails every morning, have a fenced yard, and work from home so someone will be around almost all of the time. Our dog is 7 years old, friendly with dogs and people, and naps most of the day after a morning walk. He isn't interested in long stretches of rambunctious play so if your dog has lots of doggy play energy it probably won't be a great fit.

He's been great with all adults and kids and he might just be a little shy when he first meets you. He is an incredibly low maintenance dog that we love sooo much. Arlo
Lafayette, CABreed: Dachshund
Weight: 20 lbs
Age: 4 years old
Gender: Male
My husband, Trenton, our dog, Arlo and I are residents of the East Bay and looking to meet some local dogs in the area to keep Arlo socialized. Arlo is a 2 year old, short-hair, double dapple dachshund. He is neutered, micro-chipped, house-trained and normally friendly with dogs if they if they are able to first meet off-leash. Arlo's favorite game is catch/fetch with his orange ball or if you a have a strong arm, tug-of-war is great too! An important thing to note is that Arlo is deaf. He was born with a hearing impairment and as a result, can be reactive to surprise appearances. Arlo is scared of the dark (understandably so given he loses a second sense when the lights are off) so we use a nightlight for bedtime. Arlo isn't great with children at first given their quick movements and tendencies to reach out to pet without an introduction but warms up to them once he understands they are part of the inner circle.

Lafayette, CABreed: Labrador Retriever
Weight: 55 lbs
Age: 1 year old
Gender: Male
Looking forward to meeting other local dog lovers!
Bailey
Lafayette, CABreed: Goldendoodle
Weight: 70 lbs
Age: 2 years old
Gender: Male
Our home is full of kids (12 and 14 yrs) and other pets (3 cats, bearded dragon) and we spend a lot of time socializing Bailey (walks, dog parks, in public) so he's comfortable in a busy house. Bailey is a sweet, playful, confident guy. He loves to go on rides with me in the car. Bailey does great on walks with a gentle lead, likes to chase the ball, and loves to play with other dogs. Bailey is well-behaved guy that would love to spend time with a family and 0-2 extra dogs. We are open to watching another dog with a similar temperament (playful outside, calm inside) and that is well-behaved (no sitting on furniture, etc). Bailey sleeps in a crate at night, so we'd like to watch another dog who also stays in a crate or will sleep on a specific bed/mat.

Many dogs adapt well to boarding kennels and enjoy the experience, while others may find it stressful, especially if they are not used to being away from home or have anxiety issues.
Factors that Influence a Dog's Happiness in a Boarding Kennel:
- Socialization: Dogs that enjoy interacting with other dogs and people often have a more positive experience.
- Comforts of Home: Familiar toys or bedding from home can provide comfort and reduce stress.
- Quality of Care: Dogs will be happier in kennels with attentive and caring staff.
Tips to Ensure Your Dog's Happiness:
- Pre-boarding Visits: Take your dog for a visit before their actual stay to familiarize them with the environment and staff.
- Bring Familiar Items: Pack your dog's favorite toys, bedding, or treats to provide a sense of security.
What is the Purpose of Dog Boarding?
The purpose of dog boarding is to provide a safe and supervised environment for dogs when their owners cannot take care of them. It offers peace of mind to dog owners, knowing their pets are well-cared for while they are away.
Benefits of Dog Boarding:
- Safe Environment: Boarding facilities are designed to keep dogs secure and prevent them from escaping.
- Professional Care: Trained staff ensures your dog's needs are met and can handle any medical emergencies.
- Social Interaction: Some boarding options, like dog communities, offer socialization opportunities for your pet.
What is the Difference Between Dog Boarding and Dog Sitting?
While both dog boarding and dog sitting provide care for your pet when you're away, there are significant differences in how these services are provided.
Dog Boarding
- Location: Dogs are typically taken to a separate facility, such as a kennel or a boarding community.
- Duration: Boarding is usually for a more extended period, such as days or weeks.
- Socialization: Some boarding options offer opportunities for dogs to interact with other dogs.
Dog Sitting
- Location: Dog sitting usually takes place in the owner's home.
- Duration: Dog sitting is often for shorter periods, like a few hours to a day or two.
- Individual Attention: Dog sitters can offer more one-on-one attention, making it suitable for dogs that prefer a familiar environment.
Should I Bathe My Dog After Boarding?
Bathing your dog after boarding can be beneficial, but it's not always necessary. The need for a bath depends on the length of their stay and their activities while boarding.
When to Consider Bathing:
- Extended Stay: If your dog had an extended stay, a bath might help freshen them up after the boarding experience.
- Dirty or Smelly: If your dog got excessively dirty or developed a noticeable odor during boarding.
Tips for Bathing Your Dog After Boarding:
- Use Dog-Friendly Shampoo: Make sure to use a shampoo specifically formulated for dogs to avoid skin irritation.
- Gentle Approach: Be gentle and patient, especially if your dog is not used to baths.
- Drying: Thoroughly dry your dog to prevent them from catching a chill.
